The Mastercard Foundation Fund for Alumni Start-ups in Transition (FAST) Program is an initiative designed to support and empower the next generation of entrepreneurs in Africa.
Launched by the Mastercard Foundation in partnership with organizations such as CCHub Nigeria, MDF Global, Concree, Scale Up, Savannah Innovations Lab, the Center for Enterprising Organizations, Inkomoko, and the Africa Leadership Academy (ALA), the program targets alumni from specific leadership and scholarship programs.
These include the Young African Leaders Initiative (YALI), African Leadership Academy (ALA), Anzisha Prize, and the Mastercard Foundation Scholars Program.
The FAST program provides financial support of up to $15,000 per venture, along with business development training and access to a network of mentors and like-minded entrepreneurs.
It is tailored for aspiring entrepreneurs or those in the early stages of their entrepreneurial journey. The support is structured in two phases:
Idea Phase: Up to $5,000 to help develop and refine initial business ideas.
Build Phase: Between $10,000 and $15,000 to transform those ideas into viable business models.
Applications for the program opened on April 3, 2025, and interested alumni can apply through the official Mastercard Foundation FAST application portal.
The program duration typically ranges from 3 to 6 months, depending on the implementing partner and the stage of the applicant's business.
Additionally, an informational event featuring program partners and past participants is scheduled for April 8, 2025, at 11 AM (EST) to provide insights and success stories.
This initiative reflects the Mastercard Foundation’s broader mission to advance education and financial inclusion, enabling young people in Africa to access dignified and fulfilling work through entrepreneurship.
