Application Guide for the Women Techsters Fellowship Program Class of 2025

The Women Techsters Fellowship Beneficiaries are selected yearly from an application pool through a highly competitive application process. 

The application phase entails the following: 

Stage 1 Call for Application, Stage 2 Technical Assessment, and Stage 3 which is the Virtual-Led Interview.

This document provides helpful tips in submitting the first stage application only.

Who is the Ideal Fellow?

An ideal fellow is an African woman who embraces empathy, humility, and inclusion as guiding values. 

She is a self-starter committed to learning with and supporting a network of culturally distinct women. She is committed to collaborating to develop herself and the continent through the digital skills acquired from the fellowship program.

In addition to these guiding values and traits, we are looking for intellectual rigor, vision, research skills, curiosity, openness, kindness, and much more. 

A Women Techsters Fellow is a woman who will champion inclusion and equality in the tech ecosystem.

She;

• Is willing to dedicate time

• Is hardworking

• Is a team player

• Identifies tech as a propellerfor herfuture

How to Apply:

Interested applicants should use this link https://bit.ly/WTFellowship25 to complete the fellowship application form on or before, Friday, 31st January 2025. 

Only completed applications will be reviewed by the Selection Committee. 

Applicants are also encouraged to go through the Application guidelines for tips on submitting their application.

Tips to Submitting the first Level Application Form:

You are expected to carefully complete the application form with valid and true responses in the first stage application form.

The following are important and helpfultips you should take note of before proceeding to apply.

• Valid email address: In ensuring that your application is successful, and you receive further communication on your application process, ensure you provide a valid email address with an alternate email address as your secondary email address. 

This is very important.

• Enter Valid Laptop Specification: You would be required to enter your laptop specifications in the application form. 

You can find this information by going to the Abouto r Settings section on your laptop. For example, on Windows 10, you can find this information by right-clicking on.

The Windows icon in the lower left corner of your screen, selecting System, and then looking for the information under Device specifications.

• A well written essay that answers the following questions; You can have your essays written down before you start your application. 

This would enable you to submit a great essay.

1. Why are you interested in being a part ofthe Women Techsters Fellowship training and why should you be selected? (Max of 200 words)

2. An experience in which you encountered a challenge and how you pulled resources together to solve it. (Max 200 words)

3. A scenario where you had to work in a team and the role you played on the team. 

How did you support your team? 

How did you manage time pressure on deliverables? 

What did the team achieve? 

How did the team manage conflict? (In 150 words or less)

• Link to Uploaded Motivational Video; 

You would be expected to submit a link to a prerecorded video which speaks to your motivation for applying into the fellowship program and why you should be selected. Your video should contain the following information.

Full name and country of residence

Learning track of application and why it was chosen

Availability to commit to the program fully for a year (An ideal candidate should speak on the things they have put in place to ensure they are available for the one-year program)

Why you should be admitted into the Fellowship program

Why you consider yourself to be the perfect beneficiary to be selected for the W.T. Fellowship Class of 2025 is very important to mention as it gives insight into why the W.T. Fellowship opportunity is important to you as an applicant.

The video should also demonstrate your understanding of the program they are applying for and how it aligns with their career goals.

Plans for utilizing the skills acquired from the Fellowship program Before you record your video, do take note of the following;

Use a good background: Choose a clean, clutter-free background that won't distract the viewer from your message. 

A plain wall or a neutral background is ideal.

Use good lighting: 

Make sure the lighting is bright enough for the viewer to see you clearly. 

Natural light is best, so try to record your video during the day in a well-lit room.

Use a stable camera or phone:Use a tripod or place your phone on a stable surface to avoid shaky footage.

Dress appropriately: 

Dress professionally, as if you were attending an interview.

This will help you make a good impression and show that you take the application process seriously.

Speak clearly: Speak clearly and slowly to ensure your message is conveyed effectively.

Ensure you are also audible.

Practice beforehand:

Record a few practices runs before creating your final video to help you feel more comfortable and confident.

Edit before uploading: Once you've recorded your video, review it and edit it if necessary.

Make sure it meets the guidelines provided and that you are happy with the final product before uploading it to YouTube.

How can I upload my video?

• Upload your video to YouTube. Please click here for guidance on how to do so When you upload your video, please make it Public (which means that anyone can see it and search YouTube for it), or Unlisted (only people given the link can view it).

We will not be able to view videos set to Private!

When you fill in your application form, you will be asked to provide your video’s direct link.

• Upload your video on Google Drive. Please click here for guidance on how to do so.

When you upload your video to drive, right click and select "Get shareable link", turn link sharing on, make sure you set the sharing settings to 'anyone with the link can view',

We will not be able to view videos that are not set to 'anyone with the link can view'!

When you fill in your application form, you will be asked to provide your video’s share link.

• If Google and YouTube are not accessible from your country, try a service such as www.vimeo.com. 

For guidance uploading to Vimeo, click here . When using Vimeo ensure to set the privacy setting to 'Anyone' so that our team may view the video.

When you fill in your application form, you will be asked to provide your video’s Vimeo link.
