The Abdul Samad Rabiu Africa Initiative Scholarship Grant Scheme for 500 Beneficiary Students of The Khalifa Isyaku Rabiu University, Kano.
The Khalifa University scholarship grant scheme is a benevolent grant that will enable academically capable students from low-income families nationwide to complete their university education at Khalifa University, Kano.

Application opens from 5th - 15th September, 2024.
1. Field of Study
(a) Applicants must be enrolled in a full-time undergraduate program at Khalifa University Kano or have been recently admitted into the course of their choice after fulfilling the required academic criteria.
(b) Applicants across the country desiring to study at the University based on the scholarship opportunity are also eligible to apply.
(c) The university offers the following courses: Medical Laboratory Science, Nursing, Radiography, Biochemistry, Biotechnology, Microbiology, Forensic Science, Industrial Chemistry, Computer Science, Cyber Security, Software Engineering, Mathematics, Physics with Electronics, Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, and Mechatronic Engineering.
2. Academic Excellence
(a) Current Students at the University applying for the grant should have a Minimum GPA requirement: Applicants should have a strong academic record with a minimum GPA (3.5 on a 5.0 scale or equivalent) in their current program.
(b) Fresh applicants to the University desiring to take advantage of the scholarship scheme should have a minimum of 8 credits in their WAEC/NECO exams and score a minimum of 200 and above at The Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME). Distinctions obtained at the school leaving certificates level will be an added advantage.
3. Gender Balance
The scholarship will target a minimum gender ratio of 60% Female and 40% Male.
4. Diversity, Inclusion & Geographical Representation
(a) Promote diversity by considering applicants from various backgrounds, regions, and socioeconomic statuses, and ensuring a fair representation of both genders.
(b) Ensure that selected students come from different regions of Nigeria to promote inclusivity.
(c) 100 beneficiaries will be indigenes of Kano State while the remaining 400 beneficiaries will be selected evenly from across the rest of the country.
(d) Valid proof of identity and proof of state of indigene will be required for shortlisted applicants.
5. Letter of Intent
Require applicants to submit a well-written letter of intent. In the letter, applicants should articulate their passion for their field of study, their career goals, and how the scholarship will assist them in achieving those goals.
6. Letters of Recommendation
Old students at the university should provide letters of recommendation from professors or academic advisors who can attest to their academic abilities and potential.
7. Extracurricular Activities
Consider applicants' involvement in extracurricular activities related to ICT, Tech, Engineering, or other socially beneficial activities such as participation in clubs, competitions, or relevant projects.
8. Community Involvement
Evaluate applicants' involvement in community service or initiatives showcasing their commitment to using their skills for the betterment of society.
9. Financial Need
While it is a merit-based scholarship, consideration will be made for financial needs to ensure that deserving candidates who may be facing financial hardships are not excluded.
10. Adherence to University Regulations
Confirm that applicants are in good standing with the university and are not facing any disciplinary issues.
11. Commitment to Education and Career Development
Assess applicants' commitment to their education and career development by looking at their long-term goals and how the scholarship will help them achieve those goals.
12. Passion for Advancing Women in STEM
Give preference to female applicants who demonstrate a strong commitment to participating and succeeding in STEM fields
13. Interview or Essay
Depending on the volume of initial applicants, a second selection step can be introduced by conducting interviews or requesting essays on relevant topics to assess applicants' communication skills, understanding of their chosen field, and passion for it.
