Background:

The current minimum wage of N30,000 per month expires at the end of March 2024. To address this and establish a new, realistic, and practical minimum wage, the committee is consulting various stakeholders. Their goal is to consider the national economy's dynamics while balancing the needs of workers, employers, and the overall economic landscape.

Who should participate?

State and Local Governments: They play a vital role in implementing the minimum wage and understand the regional economic realities.
Labor Unions: Representing workers' interests, their voice is essential in advocating for a fair and sustainable minimum wage.
Employers of Labor: Businesses and organizations directly affected by the minimum wage need to share their perspective on its impact on their operations.
Civil Society Groups: Their expertise can shed light on social and economic factors impacting the minimum wage's effectiveness.

Venue: The hearings will be held in six geo-political zones:
- North-East: Banquet Hall, Government House, Yola, Adamawa State
- North-West: Africa House, Government House, Kano
- South-South: Ibom Hall, IBB Way, Uyo, Akwa Ibom State
- North-Central: Chida Hotel Event Centre, Plot 224, Solomon Lar Way, Utako, Abuja
- South-East and South-West: Venues to be announced soon.
Preparation: Stakeholders are urged to submit a written memorandum outlining their recommendations. This should include:
- Proposed new minimum wage amount per month.
- Number of employees this should apply to and any excluded sectors (if applicable).
- Suggestions for enhancing and sustaining productivity in both public and private sectors.
- Recommendations for the frequency and mechanism of future reviews.
- Proposed penalties for individuals or companies violating the National Minimum Wage Act.
- Any other relevant and critical recommendations.
Submission: Soft copies of presentations should be sent to minimum.wage@nsiwe.gov.ng (preferred) or wage@gmail.com (for bulky files).
