Federal Govt Student Loan New Date Update Today, 8th March 2024

In a recent update, the Federal Government has explained the delay in launching the Nigeria Education Loan Fund portal and set a new date for eligible students to access this significant initiative. Dr. Akintunde Sawyerr, the Executive Secretary of NELFund, shared in an interview that the portal is now set to open in March, underlining the need for precision due to the technical nature of the process.

President Bola Tinubu signed the Access to Higher Education Bill into law on June 12, 2023, aiming to provide interest-free loans to indigent students pursuing education in Nigerian tertiary institutions. Initially planned for September to October 2023, the scheme faced delays, with a revised timeline set for January.

“This is not a political program where we say, oh! we are just going to do it, it doesn’t matter how it works. This is a program that will probably run beyond me as a human being," Sawyerr explained, emphasizing the commitment to long-term success.
