The Nigerian Supreme Council for Islamic Affairs (NSCIA) has officially disclosed the potential dates for the commencement of the annual Ramadan fast in 2024. The Deputy Secretary-General, Prof Salisu Shehu, confirmed that March 11 and March 12, 2024, are the anticipated starting dates, contingent upon the sighting of the moon after sunset on Sunday, March 10, 2024.
In a statement, the NSCIA urged the Muslim community to actively engage in searching for the crescent of Ramadan 1445 on the designated date, equivalent to 29th Sha’aban 1445 AH. Expressing warm felicitations, the NSCIA, led by President-General and Sultan of Sokoto, His Eminence, Alh. Muhammad Sa’ad Abubakar, invoked prayers for Allah to spare the lives of every Muslim, enabling their participation in the upcoming ibadah (worship) during Ramadan. The council encouraged the faithful to maximize the spiritual benefits of this holy month.
Following the advice of the National Moon Sighting Committee (NMSC), the President-General advised the Nigerian Muslim Ummah to commence their search for the crescent of Ramadan 1445 AH immediately after sunset on Sunday, 10th March 2024. This date, equivalent to the 29th Sha’aban 1445 AH, is crucial for determining the official start of Ramadan.
Should the crescent be sighted on this evening by Muslims of impeccable character, His Eminence Alh. Muhammad Sa’ad Abubakar would declare Monday, 11th March 2024, as the first day of Ramadan 1445 AH.
