The Nigerian Customs Service (NCS) has recently addressed and clarified misconceptions surrounding its e-auction process. Contrary to previous allegations, the NCS has debunked claims of a N10,000 fee for duties to the Federal Government, emphasizing that the reserved price for auctioned vehicles is N400,000.
Abdullahi Maiwada, the Customs National Public Relations Officer, highlighted the primary objective of the e-auction system—to provide equal opportunities to all Nigerian bidders. He explained that a considerable number of seized vehicles are currently under litigation, requiring court rulings on their potential forfeiture to the Federal Government before auctioning.
Recent data from five successful bidding windows revealed that 13,605 applicants participated in the e-auction, with 476 vehicles uploaded and 462 successfully auctioned. Notably, the Federal Government accrued N556,738,736 in revenue from the auction, underscoring the system's efficiency and financial contribution. CONTINUE READING.....
Maiwada reiterated the NCS's commitment to accountability and adherence to established guidelines, dismissing claims of fraudulent activities or preferential treatment. He refuted allegations that over 300 vehicles were auctioned to a single individual, categorizing such claims as baseless and untrue. Maiwada urged the public to verify auction details directly from Customs' commands and formations nationwide to prevent misinformation.
In conclusion, the NCS emphasized its dedication to transparency and encouraged Nigerians to actively contribute to the promotion of an inclusive and fair auction system. This clarification aims to dispel misinformation, ensuring that the integrity of the e-auction process is maintained with equal opportunities for all participants.
