UTME 2024: Step To Resolve JAMB/NIMC Challenges Faced by UTME 2024 Applicants in NIN Verification

As the sales of forms for the 2024 Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME) began, prospective applicants in Nigeria have been grappling with impediments hindering the seamless integration of their National Identification Number (NIN) with their phone lines. This integration is a mandatory requirement for candidates participating in the examination, enforced by the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) to counter malpractices like impersonation.

Since the commencement of form sales on January 15, numerous applicants and their guardians have expressed dissatisfaction with the challenges encountered in generating electronic pins for registration. The prevalent message received by many applicants is "No record found. Send email with NIN and name to nimc-jamb2023@nimc.gov.ng. Then try again in 4 hours." Unfortunately, attempts to resolve such issues through emails to the National Identity Management Commission (NIMC) have reportedly gone unanswered, leading to mounting disappointment and frustration among applicants and their support networks.

Adding to the complications are discrepancies in the information provided by NIMC. Musefiu Alabi recounted that the details supplied for his daughter did not align with the information submitted during the registration process. Such disparities, including incorrect local government areas and dates of birth, pose challenges that may require costly corrections and time-consuming processes.

In response to the growing concerns, JAMB has acknowledged the issues faced by applicants in the NIN verification and linkage process. Fabian Benjamin, the Head of Public Affairs and Protocol for JAMB, expressed surprise at the volume of complaints and assured swift intervention. However, in the interim, JAMB advises applicants who identify incorrect details in their NIN records to pause their UTME registration until the information is updated and corrected by NIMC. This precautionary measure is aimed at ensuring the accuracy of applicant information and a smooth registration process.

Efforts to obtain a response from NIMC on the ongoing challenges have been unsuccessful, as calls to the Head of its Public Communications Unit, Kayode Adegoke, remained unanswered. The collaboration between JAMB and NIMC is anticipated to streamline the NIN verification process, offering relief to applicants and guardians grappling with these unforeseen obstacles as they seek admission into tertiary institutions.
