Nigeria Launches First Online Passport Application Portal




On January 8, 2024, the Minister of Interior, Dr. Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, unveiled the inaugural online passport application portal for both international and Nigerian applicants. The official launch took place in Abuja, following a demonstration session held on Friday, where the minister showcased the platform alongside Caroline Adepoju, the Comptroller General of the Nigeria Immigration Service.

The development comes in line with the Federal Government's commitment to fully automate the passport application process in the country, a project that the minister announced in December. Dr. Tunji-Ojo revealed that the automated application system is now "99 per cent done," incorporating features such as the uploading of passport photos and supporting documents. CONTINUE READING....

Nigerian applicants can now utilize the online portal to apply for 32-page passports with a five-year validity, with the corresponding fee set at N25,000. Alternatively, those opting for 64-page passports with a 10-year validity will pay N70,000. Foreign applicants interested in passports with a five-year validity and 32 pages will be charged $130, while those preferring passports with a 10-year validity and 64 pages will pay $230.
