The University of Ottawa in Canada has unveiled a substantial $11 million scholarship initiative for African students, aiming to support their undergraduate studies. The scholarships, divided into Entrance and Excellence programs, are applicable for students from Africa and other English-speaking countries commencing their studies in the Fall 2024 term.
The four-year scholarship covers a portion of university tuition costs and emphasizes not only pre-university academic accomplishments but also achievements during each term of full-time study at the University. Scholarship amounts vary based on the admission average and the faculty offering the program. Excellence scholarships are competitively awarded to top candidates with an admission average of 90% or higher, provided they apply for admission by April 1, 2024, and complete the admission process by April 15, 2024. It's important to note that the Entrance scholarship cannot be combined with the Excellence Scholarship for African Students Studying in English.
To be eligible for these scholarships, international students must be citizens of any African country, newly admitted in the fall 2024 term in an eligible undergraduate program offered in English, not enrolled in the French immersion stream, possess a valid study permit when classes start, and be enrolled full-time. The application process involves applying online, generating a Student Number, logging into the school's portal (UOZone), and submitting results and documents for review.
