In a move to empower the next generation of entrepreneurs, the Small and Medium Enterprises Development Agency of Nigeria (SMEDAN) has unveiled its groundbreaking "Undergraduate Internship Programme." The initiative aims to identify, train, and empower future business leaders by offering hands-on entrepreneurial experiences to students across the country.
The official launch took place at Baze University in Abuja, where Charles Odii, the Director General of SMEDAN, announced their goal of providing 10,000 internship placements through the program in 2024. The programme, aptly named the "SMEDAN Undergraduate Internship Programme," is set to play a crucial role in fostering the growth of Nigeria's next unicorns. Farida Akuyam, a Business Management student at Baze University, was unveiled as the pioneer participant, symbolizing the program's commitment to nurturing talent.
Odii emphasized the significance of the initiative, stating, "We want to spot and nurture the builders of Nigeria’s next unicorns, and this programme is a major step towards achieving that goal. It is a significant demonstration of the agency’s commitment to advancing the MSME sub-sector by making the right investments in talent and innovation.
