In a significant development for the N-Power scheme, Minister of Humanitarian Affairs and Poverty Alleviation, Betta Edu, has unveiled plans for a comprehensive overhaul of the program's structure, scheduled to be launched in December 2023. The much-anticipated restructuring aims to address existing discrepancies and ensure a streamlined and efficient system.

In an exclusive interview with News Central TV, Edu acknowledged the challenges faced by N-Power beneficiaries, assuring that arrears owed to eligible recipients would be settled by January 2024. Edu emphasized the meticulous nature of the cleanup process, stating, "We met discrepancies, and we intend to clean it up before we go back to paying those who are owed, and then bringing out a completely new structure." The minister highlighted the administration's determination to capture individuals, verify their eligibility, and implement a more robust payment system.

Acknowledging the impatience among beneficiaries, Edu urged understanding, revealing that the government anticipates needing until January 2024 to conclude the cleanup and introduce the revamped structure. She clarified that the goal is not only to settle outstanding payments but also to roll out a more efficient and inclusive N-Power scheme.

The directive for this comprehensive cleanup and restructuring initiative stems from Bola Tinubu, the head of the federal government. Edu expressed Tinubu's commitment to ensuring that the N-Power program aligns with its original objectives and effectively contributes to key industries, including education, agriculture, health, and tax. Despite the assurance from the minister, some beneficiaries, like Ayinde Sanusi and Ibrahim Mohammed, expressed frustration over the prolonged wait for payments. Edu, however, reiterated the government's commitment to resolving all payment issues, citing ongoing efforts by her and Akindele Egbuwalo, the N-Power national program manager.

In a tweet-reply via its official handle, the N-Power scheme assured beneficiaries that Edu and Egbuwalo are diligently working to address payment concerns. As the cleanup progresses, the administration led by Bola Tinubu aims not only to settle arrears but also to rejig the social investment program, accommodating more individuals and ensuring prompt stipend payments.

The pending updates suggest a significant milestone for N-Power, with beneficiaries eagerly awaiting the implementation of the new structure and the subsequent commencement of payments in January 2024.
