In a recent development that brings relief to numerous former N-Power beneficiaries in Nigeria, the National Social Investment Management System (NASIMS) has issued a significant update regarding stipend disbursements. N-Power, a government initiative established by the All Progressives Congress (APC) administration in June 2016, was created to combat the pressing issue of youth unemployment in the country.
NASIMS, the central management platform responsible for overseeing the coordination of all social investment programs under the APC administration, has announced the successful completion of the N-Power Batch C1 program. The recent suspension of the N-Power scheme by the federal government in October was part of a broader strategy to initiate an investigation into the payment issues experienced by some former beneficiaries. This step was taken to ensure that individuals facing payment failures receive the stipends they are rightfully entitled to.
NASIMS has further assured all eligible N-Power beneficiaries that they will receive their stipends once the ongoing investigation, conducted by the Ministry of Humanitarian Affairs and Poverty Alleviation, reaches its conclusion. This assurance comes in response to the concerns expressed by N-Power Batch "C" beneficiaries who have endured eight months without receiving their stipends. The absence of these payments has inflicted significant hardships on the thousands of unemployed graduates enrolled in the N-Power program.
It's essential to note that while this development has received praise from some quarters, there are also reservations expressed by others.
