The UK-Nigeria Tech Hub, an initiative by the UK Government’s Department for Digital, Culture, Media, and Sports (DCMS), is inviting applications for a transformative social impact accelerator program. Tailored to foster the growth of Nigeria's technology ecosystem, the program specifically targets startups from six Nigerian states: Edo, Adamawa, Kwara, Kaduna, Enugu, and Osun.

In a statement released on Thursday, Oyinkansola Akintola-Bello, the Country Director of the Hub, announced the commencement of applications. Successful applicants will undergo a bespoke 16-week program combining in-person and virtual training facilitated by local tech hubs and business leaders. Unlocking Opportunities and Resources

The UK-Nigeria Tech Hub has collaborated with NINE to launch the 'Social Innovation Driven Entrepreneurship' accelerator, aiming to support social impact entrepreneurs. Selected participants will become part of the UK-Nigeria Tech Hub founder pipeline, gaining access to a wealth of resources and a valuable network.

"In addition to the accelerator program, startups will tackle a challenge brief developed by NINE and Kaduna Business School. This aims to identify market and sector-specific gaps in health, climate change, education, and food security within the pilot states," explained Akintola-Bello. Fostering Innovation Beyond Key Cities

Addressing the program's broader impact, Bankole Oloruntoba, Chairman of NINE, emphasized the need to stimulate innovation in emerging city-based ecosystems beyond Abuja and Lagos. "This program is focused on these emerging state economies to stimulate entrepreneurial growth and create job opportunities through digital technology," said Oloruntoba.

Eligibility Criteria

To be considered for the program, startups must:
- Address challenges within specific sectors, including education, employment, food, health, climate, and environmental change.
- Be in the Ideation, Minimum Viable Product (MVP), or early stages of development.
- Operate within the geographic boundaries of Adamawa, Edo, Enugu, Kaduna, Kwara, and Osun states.

Akintola-Bello encouraged female startup founders and innovators to apply, emphasizing inclusivity in the selection process.
