In a recent announcement, Nneka Anibeze, the Special Assistant to the former Minister of Humanitarian Affairs, Sadiya Umar Farouq, has reaffirmed the transparency of the ex-President Muhammadu Buhari's administration in managing N-Power funds.
Anibeze addressed recent allegations related to the N-Power program, emphasizing the responsible allocation of public funds and the effective management of N-Power initiatives.
She highlighted the achievements of the Farouq-led administration, emphasizing the extension of batch C1 graduate volunteers by an additional three months, with funds being disbursed in February 2023. Anibeze stressed that 90 percent of batch C1 beneficiaries received their stipends promptly within three days, while discrepancies in their bank records caused delays for the remaining beneficiaries. Batch C1, comprising 450,000 graduate beneficiaries and 60,000 non-graduate trainees, commenced in September 2021 and concluded in August 2022, with an exit package extending for three additional months. Batch C2, which included 440,000 graduate beneficiaries and 50,000 non-graduate trainees, started in October 2022 and was scheduled for completion in September 2023.
Anibeze explained that batch C2 beneficiaries received their arrears for the three months covering October, November, and December 2022 in February 2023. She noted that funds were disbursed for 440,000 beneficiaries, with nearly 50% receiving their payments promptly.
However, she also acknowledged that, at the time of Farouq's departure, approximately 71% of batch C2 graduate beneficiaries had received their payments, while the remainder were awaiting their payments, pending the completion of record validation. She pointed out that funds for batch C2 beneficiaries were only approved and released for three months, and as of January 2023, nine months of stipends remained unpaid. CONTINUE READING.....
The statement also recognized that non-graduate batch C1 beneficiaries were owed two months' stipends for the N-Build component, and non-graduate batch C2 beneficiaries had not received any stipends due to the non-release of funds.
Anibeze reassured the public that a comprehensive exit plan had been devised for batch C1 beneficiaries, which included entrepreneurial opportunities and job connections. The administration remained committed to ensuring transparency, the success of the program, and the responsible use of public funds.
