The National Population Commission (NPC) has come forward to assure households that their personal information shared during the forthcoming population and housing census will be treated with the utmost confidentiality. This important announcement was made by Mr. Bala Almu-Banye, the Federal Commissioner representing Katsina State, during a meeting with media executives in the state on Wednesday.

In preparation for the 2023 Census, the NPC has taken significant steps to ensure comprehensive coverage of all regions in Katsina State. Adequate ad hoc staff have been recruited and stationed within their local governments of residence, to effectively achieve the set census targets.

The Federal Commissioner urged residents to cooperate with enumerators and provide honest answers to the questions posed. To ensure the confidentiality of the data collected, all enumerators and supervisors involved in the process will take an oath of secrecy, promising not to disclose any personal information obtained during the census.

Advanced technology will be deployed during the census, with information being digitally transmitted to the commission's server through the use of Personal Digital Assistants (PDAs). This secure and efficient method will safeguard the data collected during the exercise.

Additionally, the NPC is working collaboratively with traditional and community leaders to ensure that even those residing in hard-to-reach areas are counted accurately. Guides provided by these leaders will assist enumerators in reaching remote communities, ensuring a comprehensive and inclusive census.

The media's role in disseminating accurate information about the census was recognized and appreciated during the meeting. Alhaji Bashir Ahmed, the General Manager of Gram FM, expressed gratitude to the commission for keeping them informed and pledged to continue enlightening the public on the significance of the census, thereby ensuring its success.

Finally, the NPC's commitment to treating personal information confidentially during the census reassures households of the safety of their data. With the employment of advanced technology and cooperation from all parties involved, the 2023 Census is poised to be a comprehensive and successful exercise in Katsina State.
