The International Labour Organisation (ILO) has vowed to assist the Nigerian government in its efforts to create over two million digital jobs. This is consistent with the government's goal of lowering unemployment and providing opportunities for young people.

Vanessa Phala, the ILO's country director for Nigeria, Ghana, Liberia, and Sierra Leone, made the announcement during World Youth Skill Day celebrations in Abuja. She stated that the digital economy has become a vital part of the daily lives of Nigerians and that there are several chances in this industry.

"Nigeria has a youthful population that requires the right skills to thrive in the digital world," Phala said. "We must invest in them, equip them with the right skills and create an enabling environment that would enrich their talents."

The ILO has already supported the Nigerian government in developing the Nigerian Youth Development Action Plan, which focuses on entrepreneurship among others. The ILO will continue to support the government in its digital transformation agenda, and in delivering on its promise of creating over two million digital jobs.

In his remarks, the secretary to the government of the federation, George Akume, said that the potential of young people should be harnessed to catalyse transformation. He said that the government is committed to reaching the skill gap and empowering young people in the green, digital and creative economy.

This is a positive development for Nigeria, as it shows that the government is serious about creating jobs for young people. The ILO's support will be invaluable in helping the government achieve its goals.

Here are some of the in-demand digital skills in Nigeria:

  • Web development
  • Software development
  • Data science
  • Cybersecurity
  • Digital marketing
  • Content creation
  • E-commerce
  • Customer service

If you are a young person in Nigeria, I encourage you to develop your digital skills. This will give you a better chance of finding a job in the growing digital economy.

The ILO's support is a great opportunity for Nigeria to create jobs and transform its economy. I am hopeful that the government will take full advantage of this opportunity.
