The new student loan laws in no way eliminated the current or future system of fees that Nigerian students attending public institutions must currently pay.

Let me hazard a guess that the new act has provided a legal framework for the various governing bodies of Nigeria’s public institutions to impose greater fees on students.

He stated that parents may believe there is some respite for them, but the reality is that this is not the case because the cost of living for students is so high each semester.

"The costs that students incur each semester may account for 10 to 20% of the school's tuition costs. Therefore, he stated, parents and children should not celebrate the act's signing at this time unless they have first obtained the loan.
