NAIRA REDESIGN: CBN Portal is Back Now Fill your Form for Cash Swap Now
A portal has been created by the Central Bank of Nigeria to collect old naira notes from people who still have them.
Days after banks began rejecting the previous denominations, the banking regulator launched the portal on its website.
Depositors must enter their Bank Verification Number, phone number, email address, bank details, address, the amount to be deposited, and denominations to be deposited on the crs.cbn.gov.ng portal before a reference number is generated.
The depositor could use the portal to monitor the deposit's progress using the reference number.
Additionally, the depositor was expected to go to a CBN branch with a copy of the completed form.
This took place despite the Supreme Court's adjournment of the case regarding the legality of the February 10, 2023 deadline for old notes.
Additionally, the Supreme Court stated that the old naira notes would continue to be legal tender until its February 22 hearing of the case.
The process for depositing the old N1,000, N500, and N200 banknotes began on Wednesday and would continue until Friday, February 17.
Customers would be required to have a completed online application form, a copy of a valid means of identification, and a completed teller in order to deposit old notes at a CBN branch.
The cash's equivalent would then be deposited into the customer's bank account after the account is verified.
Individuals cannot open accounts at the CBN branches. Consequently, a depositing account with a Deposit Money Bank is required for individuals who wish to deposit their previous, redesigned notes.
When entering the Bank's premises, individuals who wish to deposit their previous, redesigned notes must maintain order and abide by all staff and security personnel's instructions. The guideline stated, "The Bank will return the unvalidated old, redesigned notes in the form deposited if validation results are negative."
