Another Nationwide Protest Begins Today.

Some concerned civil society groups have taken to the streets across Nigeria to protest against rising cases of kidnapping in the country

According to them, the action is in response to insecurity across the country.

In Lagos, the national day of mourning was commemorated to remember victims of violent killings across the country.

The protesters used the occasion as an avenue to demand accountability in the provision of security and welfare for Nigerian citizens.

They moved to the Lagos State House of Assembly to submit their 6-point demand to the lawmakers, including their petition.

Supporters have described Friday's protest it as the commemoration of a National Day of Mourning and Remembrance of Victims of Mass Atrocities.

They will again on May 29 attend Democracy Day activities to protest against the perceived poor state of Nigeria's democracy.

Goodluck Jonathan Meets Buhari In Abuja.

Former Nigerian president, Goodluck Jonathan is currently meeting with President Muhammadu Buhari in Aso villa.The ECOWAS Special Envoy on Mali, Jonathan, was at the State House this morning to meet with President.

The visit is coming following the unrest being experienced in Mali where the interim President Bah Ndaw and Prime Minister Moctar Ouane were arrested and taken to a military base outside the capital on Monday, 23 May.

The action jeopardize an 18-month transition back to democracy after a coup last August.

Tanker Catches Fire On Otedola Bridge.

A tanker carrying a petroleum product caught fire on the Otedola bridge in Lagos on Friday.

The Fire Service, the Police, LASTMA, LASEMA and FRSC are at the scene to control the situation and manage traffic.

The Otedola bridge has become infamous for accidents involving heavy duty vehicles and others, with attendant deaths and damages.

Just this week, the Sector Commander, Federal Road Safety Corps in Lagos, Olusegun Ogungbemide insisted there are no demons in the area.

NLC Warns FG Against Increasing Petrol Price.

The Nigeria Labour Congress has warned the federal government not to increase petrol price even by one per cent otherwise it will go on strike

The NLC President Ayuba Wabba said this in a communique jointly signed with Ismail Bello, acting General Secretary of NLC, on Thursday in Abuja.

Mr Wabba explained that the NEC-in-session also reviewed the proposal by the Nigerian Governors Forum for a 300 per cent increase in the price of petrol.

He disclosed that NEC reiterated its February 17 stance to reject further increases in prices of refined petroleum products, particularly petrol.

Bishop Wale Oke Blows Hot Against Sharia Agenda.

President of Pentecostal Fellowship of Nigeria (PFN), Bishop Francis Wale Oke, has kicked against the move to introduce Sharia law to the South-West states in the country

Oke made his stand known after a group identified as the Muslim Congress had, during the zonal public hearings on constitutional amendments on Wednesday, submitted a memo to the Senate Committee, proposing the implementation of Sharia in the southwest region.

The Muslim group had said it wants Sharia implemented in the Yoruba-speaking southwest to cater to its Muslim population.

Oke, who is the Founder of Sword of the Spirit Ministries, however, urged the government to direct their efforts towards solving the mounting problems bedeviling the country.
