Flying Down The Wing: Top Five Best Full-Backs In The English Premier League For 2020/2021 Season

Top-quality full-backs are in short supply these days, and every top club seems to be after one.Full-backs these days are proving to be superstar players for their respective clubs.

Since the emergence of Liverpool's Trent Alexander-Arnold and Andrew Robertson as a creative, attacking full-back duo, teams are looking for full-backs who provide thrust and impetus to their side.

Here's a look at the five best full-backs in the Premier League this season (2020/21).

5. Ben Chilwell - Chelsea

The Blues signed him from Leicester City for around £50 million and the fee itself suggests how good the English left-back is. The 23-year-old has made an immediate impact at Stamford Bridge.

The first choice for England in the national team, Chillwell's transition from Leicester City to Chelsea has been remarkably smooth as he maintains his position as one of the best full-backs in the Premier League.

4. Trent Alexander-Arnold

Club: Liverpool

Liverpool right-back Trent Alexander-Arnold is only 22, but he has already appeared in two Champions League finals, winning one, and won the Premier League.

He was the only defender to score over 200 points in FPL last season as he was crowned PFA Young Player of the Year and earned a spot on the PFA Team of the Year for the second year in a row.

The Reds' system plays to Alexander-Arnold's strengths - his crossing ability is exceptional - and the fact that he takes set-pieces is a major plus for fantasy football

3. Reece James

Club: Chelsea

has set in an incredible 5.92 crosses per-90 minutes in the Premier League and has managed to establish himself as Chelsea’s first-choice right-back and a contender to start for England at Euro 2020.

2. Joao Cancelo

Club: Manchester City

The Portuguese fullback seems to have it all, looking menacing in attack whilst remaining defensively aware. He has only one goal and three assists this season, but 13 clean makes him a valuable asset.

Reece James is another prospect that looks strong in both departments. The Englishman doesn’t rack up his assists quite as impressively as Alexander-Arnold, but he does enjoy getting forward on occasions and looks threatening in Thomas Tuchel’s wingback position.

1. Luke Shaw

Club: Manchester United

Shaw has been a phenomenon for Manchester United this season, defending with tenacity and providing a consistently dangerous threat from the left wing.

Five assists and one goal have helped United to a strong showing this Premier League campaign, with second place a likely outcome for the Red Devils.
